Church of St. Patrick Baptism Guidelines

FIRST RECONCILIATION
Six week preparation includes a parental information session, four lessons (40 minutes/week) discussed at home, and two retreats (90 minutes each) at the parish. The sacrament is received mid-November each year.

This sacrament focuses on God’s love for us. Young people need to be involved before, during and after the celebration of a sacrament to nurture the full fruits of graces given. Parents are the primary catechists (teachers) for this sacrament. This sacrament is normally celebrated in the 2nd grade. Children past the age of 7 years - who have not participated in Faith Formation - will be prepared by the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) (see separate description). Parents must register their child in both Faith Formation and sacramental preparation classes.

FIRST EUCHARIST
Seven week preparation includes a parental information session, five lessons (40 minutes/week) discussed at home, and two retreats (90 minutes each) at the parish. First Eucharist is normally celebrated the first weekend in May at the Masses.

The family has the most important role of communicating Christian values and fostering Eucharistic understanding by participating in Mass consistently. Parents are the primary catechists (teachers) of this sacrament.

CONFIRMATION
Preparation for this sacrament is a two year program incorporating large and small group settings as well as yearly retreats. The Confirmation program strives for active membership as a parishioner within a Catholic parish through a greater understanding of personal faith and community involvement. This sacrament is typically celebrated in the 10th grade.

MATRIMONY
Commitment is 15 hours for below mentioned meetings in addition to an Archdiocesan retreat. Preparation to receive the sacrament must begin at least six months prior to the wedding date. The preparation includes meetings with the pastor, wedding coordinator, sponsor couple, Liturgy Director, and an Archdiocesan retreat.
