Let’s talk….Synod and Small Group Sessions
Last year, Archbishop Bernard Hebda called for the Archdiocese to embrace becoming a ‘listening Church’ in preparation for an archdiocesan Synod. From September 2019 to March 2020, thousands of Catholics shared what was on their hearts and minds when it comes to their parishes and the Church, and listened to what others had to say. Archbishop Hebda listened, too, and also tasked a team to code and analyze the information received. After prayerful discernment and consultation, the archbishop has determined which topics deserve a deeper dive as the local Church looks to its future.
If you ever start a sentence with, “The Church needs to…” then this is for you! Plan to discuss and provide input this fall about the best ways for the local Catholic Church to form:
- Missionary disciples who know Jesus’s love and respond to his call;
- Parishes that are in the service of evangelization; and
- Youth and young adults in and for a Church that is always young.
Join a small group to discuss and give feedback on priorities within each Synod focus area. Mark your calendar for Tuesdays, 10:00 AM & 7:00 PM, beginning September 21, 2021 at our parish. Each session will have a video to view and time for discussion.
- Week 1: Tuesday, 9/21: Introduction and foundational topics.
- Week 2 & 3: Tuesday, 9/28 and 10/5: Forming missionary disciples who know Jesus’ love and respond to his call.
- Week 4 & 5: Tuesday, 10/12 and 10/19: Forming parishes that are in the service of evangelization.
- Week 6: Tuesday, 10/26: Forming youth and young adults in and for a Church that is always young.
While it is recommended for parishioners to attend all six sessions, it is not mandatory. Attend as you are able or if a topic interests you more than another. Registration will be available and appreciated but not required.
Please pray and consider attending these small group sessions. We all have ideas about how our church is functioning, and it would be beneficial to share our ideas with each other. Bring along your friends to form your own group for discussion. Each group that will meet will have 5 to 8 people. So bring your friends from a fellow group at St. Patrick’s like 55+, Circle of Friends, Men’s Club, the Sunshine Ladies or the Franciscans or Faith Formation Parents. Meet with people who share your passion for a volunteer ministry like lectors, faith formation catechists, Eucharistic ministers, etc.
We are also looking for people to be facilitators and scribes for each group at each session time. The facilitator would be trained to oversee the meeting and the scribe would be the person who took notes. Please contact a member of the Ambassador team to ask questions. We will be in the gathering space in the coming weeks to take registrations and answer questions.
There are 10 members on our St. Patrick’s parish team: Rita Guild and Barb Hoots (co-chairs), Grace Spiewak, Morgan Novotny, Sarah Madden, Marie Olaes, Ken and Sue Johnson, Father Brian Fier and Teresa Neuman.
